Seeking personal assistant services people to support an adult autistic nonspeaking male in community-based settings. The ideal candidate is patient, understanding, kind, and empathetic, with a flexible and spontaneous nature.
Experience with autism or nonspeaking individuals is preferred but not required for the right person. The individual types to communicate and training will be provided. He is intelligent, and support persons need to presume competence, and follow his communication pace. Staying engaged and building a trusting relationship is key.
This role is best suited for someone who is emotionally intuitive, adaptable, and genuinely enjoys helping others engage safely and positively in the community and is comfortable following established supports.
What you’ll do:
The client enjoys hiking, bowling, ice skating, rollerblading, going out to eat, and listening to music, so someone who is active, engaged, and enjoys community outings would be a great fit.
Assist with meal preparation when needed (dairy- and gluten-free)
Provide steady support during periods of anxiety using learned calming strategies
Follow a clear seizure protocol if needed (he has not had a seizure in the past 6 months)
Schedule:
Combination of day shifts, evening shifts and occasional overnights
Start immediately
