These binoculars are an antique relic from theaters in England during World War II. They are of great interest to a collector more for what is printed on the sides than for actual use as binoculars in the theatre. Printed on the front and back are the following:
"The property of U.A.D.C. Ltd. 9 Long Acre W.C.2. For Hire in Theater only. Must Not Be Removed From The Theater. L5 To L25
REWARD will be paid for information leading to conviction of persons found in unlawful possession of these glasses. Persons finding themselves in possession of these glasses are requested to hand them to a police constable or deliver them to a police station."
In today's world such comments would appear to many as comical and a remnant of past times in the world. I inherited them from a soldier in WW2 who attended a theatre show in England for recreation during leave time from combat duty.
