Valley of the Cliffhangers is an extensive look into Republic Pictures serials. It features such characters as Dick Tracy, Zorro, The Lone Ranger, Red Rider, Captain America (loosely based on the comics), Captain Marvel (different from the Marvel superhero, this Cap is related to DC Comics superhero Shazam), Fu Manchu, Commando Cody, and others. Actors who appeared in the serials and in this book include Clyde Beatty, Noah Beery Sr, Smiley Burnette, Yakima Canutt, Lon Chaney Jr, Ray Corrigan, “Gabby” Hayes, Bela Lugosi, Clayton Moore and Leonard Nimoy (in a pre Star Trek sci-fi role in "Zombies of the Stratosphere").
