Large, dramatic Pastel depicting young WWII Irish Soldiers by Belfast Listed Artist, Stephen McKeown (b.1951). It measures 42" x 30" and is professionally framed under glass. All in like new condition. This work is much more dramatic and impactful in person. The size of the glass and the black background cause reflections that distort the image. McKeown is known as a painter of deep expression whose works draw the viewer into the action.
The painting is inscribed and signed on the back. "To Martin, Victory in Europe. die Augsgrabung. Stephen McKeown, 1988" (See Last 3 pix). This seems to be an homage to the brave Irish soldiers who sacrificed themselves for victory over Facism.
Mc Keown studied art at the Belfast College of Art and graduated in 1982. His works are displayed and sold mostly in the UK, where his auction results range from 4,400 Euros to 12,000 pounds.
