Having pets requires a lot of dedication and at times a lot of sacrifice; but I wouldn’t trade my two dogs for the world! Unfortunately, sometimes life and work get in the way and we need a hand from someone to help out and look after our buddies, whether that means taking them for a walk to get some exercise, spending time with them to keep them company, making sure they are fed when no one is around, or letting them out in the yard to do their business when you are away from home. As a dog owner, I’ve sacrificed attending many events because I had no one I could rely on, who I trusted, to look in on my dogs and care for them when I was away from home.
I think it’s important that you know who you let in your home and around your pets. So here’s a little bit of info about me.

I was raised with dogs, cats, and even a few birds. At one stage I had 4 dogs and a cat in the same house, and the pip squeak cat thought she was a lion and she ruled over the German Shepherd, Husky, Lab, and Chow! It was a circus and it was a fun one!

I currently have a 5 year old German Shepherd named Ziggy and a 4 ½ month old German Shepherd puppy named Augie. My two guys get two walks a day and Ziggy is 100 pounds of solid muscle and power, and Augie is half his size and quickly on the way to matching him; so your dog will be safe walking, regardless of their size.
The third dog, the little black Chow, was Maggie. I lost Maggie a couple of years ago, and though Maggie has sad eyes, Maggie lived a very charmed life. Found Maggie exhausted and curled up in a ball, on my Grandmother’s lawn, during a driving rain storm. Never intended to keep her, thought I’d find her owner after running an ad in the newspaper and hanging up flyers around town. Never got one call about her, so I often wondered if Maggie got out and ran away or someone dumped her out on the street.

Maggie got a cancerous tumor when she was 8, that I had removed. They did a biopsy and the results were devastating when they came back. The vet, who is quite renowned, recommended against chemo treatments, and said to take her home and make her comfortable. Maggie, my little miracle girl, lived for another 8 years to the surprise of everyone! Later we found out that the vet had written in her file, that he estimated she only had another 3 to 6 months to live. During the last two years of Maggie’s life, she lost the ability to go up and down the steps. She could walk, but steps were out of the question for her. So. for the last 2 years of her life, I carried her up and down the steps, multiple times throughout the day; in addition to walking her about a mile every night; which I’m convinced extended her life. I passed up lots of trips and events, because I couldn’t leave my Maggie girl on her own; but she was my baby, and that’s who I am!
