Up for sale or trade (will consider working manual Corvette of equal value) is a real 1965 Pontiac 2+2 convt that I have owned since 1969 so I can answer almost any questions about it.The car is basically stock, has the original 421 engine,with long shaft stock muncie 4 speed and the original stock Hurst Competition Plus shifter.The only real unstock part is the rear wheel wells were cut upwards to allow a larger tire to be used(with the stock G-78's if a mouse spit on the road you would spin the tires with little gas).I currently have trips on the engine, but the stock AFB 4 bbl and manifold will be included.I only used the 4bbl maybe 5% of the time, as I truly love the power and performance with the trips.Car has brand new clutch,pressure plate,throw out bearing, starter,&battery.
If you are unfamiliar with the 2+2 it is a giant full sized Pontiac Catalina, that was faster than anything else they made,with stock 421,bucket seats,dual exhaust,hd suspension,and finned brake drums.It really accelerates like a rocket ship, and the stock 0-60 was listed as 3.8 Seconds. It was advertised as the GTO's big brother.There were only 1174 Convts made(about 10 years ago only 36 were registered in US) and they were a little heavier, but because of a suspension change in the convt (they added a piece like a traction bar),they can handle the engines high HP and Torque much better than the hardtops. I can explain this firsthand to buyers as I previously had a hardtop and cracked the frame at the rear strutbar from the torque during a power shift into second!!!! scary but neat, and totally unfixable-I tried chains,welds etc, then just traded it in and looked for a new one when I got this one. Now to the condition- this car has never been in an accident
this car does need a full restoration,needs a top,plenty of rust on body, but frame seems good,interior should be replaced,drivers seat has split open, passenger good,rear seat and back are good, but hard,dash has usual cracks in it etc..The Body was rebuilt in 1986 or 87 with Miller Beer footing the bill,that's when it became 86 Porsche Red,it was originally reef turquoise.
Engine and transmission are in great shape and car can still be driven, but I would advise towing to destination if more than a few miles away, since it has basically been sitting in my driveway for about 8 years.I do start her up a few times a year, and of course take it around the block a few times, and it still goes crazy breaking loose when punched in 1st gear.
Tons,literally, of extras are included from original wheels,chrome trims,spare parts,hood,doors,fender,bumper all kinds of stuff I have collected over the years.The original pistons are stored and numbered for it as they will be needed for next engine rebuild,since it will have to be sleeved, but that is a ways off.Currently the engine is bored out .058 and I installed 455 10 over pistons to lower the compession due to today's octane, and it still has tons of power.
