Position open:Stage Performer plays Trumpet; Picc/Flute; Violin/Fiddle (Wanted) (Philly, NJ, etc.)

Stage Performer, Dancer, or Actress/Actor wanted that plays either Trumpet, Piccolo or is a Strong Flutist, or plays Violin/Fiddle for well established professional on-stage productions:

Our on-stage performances encompass more than seventeen different acts, are known worldwide and are very well established, and have been performing for 26 years at only the finest hotels and venues. The productions utilize a totally unique blend of choreographed movement and instrumentation that is unlike anything else. Think the last Michael Jackson production clip, except you're also playing your instrument.

If you have the heart, soul, mind set, and detail for the visual of the true "On-Stage Performer", along with the ability to really play, this may be the opportunity for you. You certainly are familiar with the "Song and Dance" performer, and that may describe you. This is a totally unique opportunity to be a "Play and Dance" performer. We are a professional on-stage musical performance entertainment company, and if you also sing or play additional instruments, we may incorporate those capabilities as well. Do you wish you had the opportunity to combine your talents rather than just being the "Stage Performer", or just being the "Musician"? If you do, you may be the performer we are looking for.

Please see our expanded full posting at the following link before responding: http://mysite.verizon.net/~jobpostingjersey/

Please respond via email with a Letter of Introduction that tells us what instrument(s) you play, where you live, that you have a car of your own that is available to you whenever you need it, as well as some background on your experience and capabilities; Headshot/Bodyshot; Body Stats; Resume. Good luck!

Seeking BASSIST and GUITARIST for Pop Punk (University City)

We are seeking a dedicated bass player and guitarist. MUST have stage presence and commitment. We are a touring band and need someone who wants to take a band to the next level. We play guitar driven, fast-paced, pop punk. We have crazy stage presence, and if you don't move on stage, frankly, you'll look stupid. We hold practice (jamming and discussing new ways to help the band) in University City, Philly. Please learn our songs on our myspace... by ear. The guitarist will play the LEADS during verses, but DO NOT worry about the solos (unless you want to). We're not trying to sound like assholes, but please make sure you can learn the songs before you try to jam. If you don't know the songs when you come over, honestly it just wastes both our time, and yours. If you can practice often, want to tour, and are willing to do whatever it takes to help our band make it to the point where we are playing every night, then message us!!

Please, please, please do not message us unless you are serious and you REALLY think that you will fit in well. Unfortunately, in the music industry, image does matter. If you are 55, you probably won't fit. Also, if you have no ride or way to get to practice, that won't work either. You should like our music and you should have the drive to want to tour everyday. We really need someone to HELP us, not tag along because they really want to be in a band or go on tour. When we get a full lineup, we plan on being on the road for about 10 years straight, so if you can't handle touring, don't waste your time. Thanks!

Gigging Local Beatles Band Needs New Bassist to Play McCartney (Philadelphia area)

A Philadelphia-based Beatles tribute band is looking for a bass player and vocalist to replace our Paul McCartney. The right candidate must be able to sing all McCartney vocal parts, leads and backups. The ideal candidate will also own a Hofner bass and provide their own transportation to gigs and rehearsals.

This Beatles tribute is an experienced band with 10 years of gigging experience in the Philadelphia area. The group does not wear wigs or act on stage. Instead we focus on reproducing the music on the recorded Beatles albums as accurately as possible.

The band has shows already booked through December 2010 and plays primarily in the Philadelphia market. Each member of the band currently holds a day job so this is part-time opportunity. The band gigs mostly on weekends on an average of about 2 times per month.

The right candidate is a talented musician who is looking to enjoy themselves playing with a great band and making some extra cash. We perform for the pleasure of re-creating excellent music with other Beatles fans and have a strong reputation as one of the best-sounding Beatles groups in the Delaware Valley.

The band rehearses south of the Philadelphia airport in PA. We are looking to fill this slot before the end of 2009. Interested candidates will be asked to audition. Please respond asap with your interest and for more information about the group.

Tech Death Bassist Wanted (East Lansdowne PA (delco))

Hello. I'm looking for a bassist who wants to play technical deathmetal, and is not set on being in a band with a vocalist.

We arent a functioning band yet, and arent gonna play out anytime soon. Our intentions are to practice 2-4 times a month, and slowly build some song material. I have places that we can eventually play shows... but we dont intend to do this for probably around a year from now. I dont care if you're the shit and wanna play out. Go somewhere else. If you want to play needlessly complex deathmetal songs that youve worked hard and perfected, keep reading.

I am a drummer and I have a guitarist, we are both still learning/developing the stamina to play the music we love... We can play deathmetal and had written a song(just the two of us), but ditched it in order to pursue more complex material. Anyway before we start to write anything, we'd like to find a really gnarly bassist to play with. We'd prefer someone who plays fingerstyle bass on some level... or at least a finger player. No pick players please, unless you really know a whole lot of scales and are really good with arpeggios. Basically we want a bassist who can do a lot of arpeggios and understands where we wanna go as a band. Ideally, a bassist who can play leads is what we want. Possibly, even share duties as our main lead-player. Please be within the ages of 21 and 30 and have a ride/practice (smaller) equipment, as our practice place is quite small.

Our influences range from oldschool deathmetal like Atheist, Death, Brutality, Malevolent Creation and some others... to tech death shit like Spawn of Possession, Gorod, Necrophagist, Decrepit Birth, Odious Mortem, Sickening Horror, Obscura... and some others. We're also both huge Hate Eternal fans.

We're either going to be doing technical deathmetal with VERY sparing vocal work... or just straight instrumental tech death. Probably a bit of both if we find someone with a good voice who plays guitar or bass. We aim to get a few songs together over the next year or so, IN NO RUSH WHATSOEVER. Email me.

Some of my personal influences in addition to those listed above are: Nick Drake, Neil Young, John Fahey, Bob Dylan, Steve Reich. We already have some material and our guitarist is already in a band (www.myspace.com/abserdoba) that plays venues around the Philly area, so once we are ready to play out it won't be hard to get gigs.
re: Touring as in paying gigs not a vacation (another perspective)

Hiya,

I think we've hit the spot where our views on this split.

I'm assuming by "show band" on a "hotel circuit" you're playing covers rather than originals. Your goal then isn't to promote your music; you are, as you say, "providing a service."

(please don't take that as me trying to putting you down - props for getting paid well to travel the country and play music!)

I agree with you that hobo'ing from town to town with the intention of playing covers for no money would be kinda silly. But, if I had a batch of original songs that no one outside my city had heard yet, my impetus is different - I'm trying to sell a product, not provide a service. My goal is to build a following in each city, which can blossom enough to garner me paying gigs later down the road. Think of them almost as sales calls - and there's a long line of now-famous musicians who got started doing just that.

Also, if you're an unknown, I'd wager to say that playing 4 or 5 songs at the right open mic (room full of musicians) can probably get you more contacts than a full set to a general audience. Same as alternative venues - why hit a club if your potential audience (again I'm thinking the DIY punk thing) would be more receptive to, say, a VA hall or squat house? Those places can get packed under the right circumstances. That's just good marketing.

And, well, maybe you're not as interested with Kerouac et al as I am, but I find the idea of hitting the road with a guitar sort of romantic. So long as I made it home in one piece, I wouldn't be embarrassed at all that I did it (and I would if I didn't have the commitments at home that I do).

But I guess the reason I'm flogging this dead horse is because it just struck me as snobby to pick apart this small, inconsequential part of their post and split hairs about it. I really don't know why it bristled you so much (says the guy who's spent half his day crafting replies about it). They're putting themselves and their music out there - why slag them for it? Don't most of the cooler heads on CL keep saying to just work harder? Sounds like hard work to me.

And yeah, I whipped out the dictionary entries because your post said the word "derived from" your definition - actually the situation is reversed.

(PS - nice to have an intelligent conversation about this)

We have the lowest voice known to man. This young man is 24 and we know that his voice is lower than any singer every to pick up a mic. He was nominated for a Grammy in 2007 and he is now a solo act. He is open for voice over wok, acting, and for booking. When he was 16 he sang Barry White Covers, and @ the age of 24 he is now inducted into the Hall of Fame. James Taylor was quoted by saying his voice is a pure bass. He is a real freak of nature . There has never been a phenomenon of this sort seen in the industry.
The PRO LINE ROCKERS program, begun by Coach Al Mac and continued by Coach Gene Mugler, enables kids and adults to play in a band.

We do most of the work...we put people of similar skill levels together in a band, let the participants have input on the material being played(within their skill level), provide a rehearsal space and equipment, provide a coach to put the songs together, and arrange a catered party at a real nightclub to present the group in performance.

Wow! All the students need to do is learn the songs and practice...and get as many friends and family members as possible to attend the party!

This program has been an enormous success and the participants all love it. Many have done it several times. Not only is it great fun, but there is so much to be learned from being part of a musical "team"....playing in a band is different than playing alone.

And a whole lot more exciting!
The cost is only $129.00

Touring as in paying gigs not a vacation (A perspective)

You have an excellent command of the English language.

I don't consider playing coffee houses (which are quite known for not paying well or paying not at all) a tour. Unlike you, I am not referring to the literal meaning of the word 'tour' as you have referenced - as in visiting and traveling to places and for whatever purpose. I am referring to the connotation of the word 'tour" with reference to the music business. When someone says 'tour', I can assure you they are not speaking of playing coffee houses, but rather major venues, A, B, and possible C rooms. The majority of coffee houses just do not fall into that category. There might be one or two exceptions - but certainly not the norm. I don't know of any coffee house gigs in the local region that pay performers - short of a free cup of coffee. That's not even charity. Furthermore, I have checked out the coffee house scene, so I am not speaking from a lack of intelligent marketing studies.

So excuse me for taking exception to a group of musicians, traveling around parts of the U.S. in a small vehicle, looking for free places to sleep, playing coffee houses and calling this a tour.

I play in a show band playing a hotel lounge circuit around the country - I don't call it a tour. In this business, when someone says their on tour, it has a much different connotation. Major acts playing major rooms, halls, theaters such as playing the Borgata, the Trocadero, The Tower, even playing a college circuit, that is a paying salary gig situation, with rooms and food per diam compensating the members of the band and support staff is a reality of a touring situation.

I would be embarrassed to say I am on a music tour playing coffee houses, not getting paid for my services, and having to beg for places to sleep - just doesn't have the same meaning as in a 'touring' situation'.

But excuse me for be harsh or unfair.
That's some interesting etymology there, friend.

Here's where the word comes from:
from Old French: a turn, from Latin tornus a lathe, from Greek tornos; compare turn]
or:
[Middle English, a turn, from Old French (influenced by tourner, to turn about), from Latin tornus, lathe; see turn.]

nothing about management, letter-ranked rooms or other CL buzzwords there...

Applicable definitions include:
1. A trip with visits to various places of interest for business, pleasure, or instruction.
2. (Performing Arts / Theatre) (Business / Marketing) to perform (a show) or promote (a product) in several different places.

So, if I understand correctly:
1) one cannot be on a "tour" without management (DIY punk acts need not apply)
2) one must play a theater, A room or B room to be considered as a "touring" band (C-rooms and alternative venues don't count)
3) coffee houses, despite the staggering number of folk (or almost any, really) musicians who play at them, do not count as tour-worthy venues.

And, by inference:
4) You wouldn't have a problem with them bringing the kid cross-country if a "legitimate management company" was booking them in "theaters, A rooms or possibly C rooms."

Just curious, what would you call it if someone made a CD and planned a cross-country trip where they played in as many cities as possible while trying to promote themself and sell their album? And, why do you care?

REPLY TO:
You call this touring. This is not a touring band situation. The term 'tour' is derived from legitimate management companies supporting and promoting legitimate national acts playing theaters, A rooms, and possibly some B rooms - but not playing open mics / coffee houses cross country. Where are the children protection agencies?

Regarding the below CL post.......................this is a disgrace.

Our band, The Confederate Underground is looking for a singer. Currently I write and sing the songs but would prefer to have someone else’s voice as I’m not so sure mine is up to par. Even if we split singing duties that would be good, I’m just not so sure I want to full load. Both guys and gals can apply as long as you have the pipes. We are looking for someone who is serious, wants to get in at the ground level, record and start gigging as soon as possible. I am 23 and the bass player is 22 so age doesn’t matter as much as skill and experience but someone around our general age would be preferred but not necessary.

Our influences are wide and varied. We enjoy everything from blues to metal, from alternative to progressive and everything in between. Our sound would probably classified as hard rock but nothing is set in stone. We rent out our own practice space in Upper Darby where we can play 24 hours a day.

So if your interested and want to come down and jam, respond back to me with your name, age, myspace/facebooks, whatever you may have. Any previous bands you were in and samples would be a huge help also. Send me some of your influences and what you are looking for in a band and we can see what happens.
Thanks,

Our band, The Confederate Underground is looking for an experienced drummer to join us. Unfortunately our last drummer wasn’t into practicing and doing shows so we are looking for someone who is serious, wants to get in at the ground level, record and start gigging as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Private lessons to enhance your existing slide guitar skills or to get you started on the right track if you are a beginner. Although I specialize in a country blues and electric guitar sound honed from learning songs from Son House to Duane Allman, I also add slide to many of my original R&B, Rock, and Folk tunes. Using slide technique over non-traditional blues scales like the melodic and harmonic minor opens up possibilities for your originals that do not fall into the conventional blues sound. This sound can be heard in the recordings of Ry Cooder, Sonny Landreth, and Keb'Mo to name a few. I teach a chord/melody slide approach that allows one to pull the song off as a soloist or an electric guitar approach where one solos using single lines like Duane Allman used in his live recordings at the Fillmore. If you would like to learn how to use a slide sound over your original recordings or want to learn to play old Elmore James or Muddy Waters standards then send me an e-mail.

I'm a performer at heart and I want to join a band. Does anyone have need for a trumpeter?

I especially want to play a gig for New Years Eve.

I am pretty flexible. My last band was a Less Than Jake cover band. How's that for a specific niche of fans?

Before that, I was a guest trumpter for a band called Tap Out, which has officially disbanded: www.myspace.com/tapout

Aside from playing ska, I have a lot of other band experience:

-marching bands (make for good band camp stories)
-parade bands
-pep bands
-jazz bands
-musicals (Cabaret was fun!)
-cover bands (typically punk rock/ska)

Like I said, I am flexible. I imitate by ear.

Ideally, I'd like to be in a cover band, since I don't write music and I can practice songs on my own. But if you already have music and an open spot, hit me up.
Hello! Thanks for reading. We are in a predicament! There are 4 of us with a 2-year old boy, doing a tour of the US doing mainly open mics and small coffee house gigs. The person we were supposed to stay at, Tues/Wed/thurs night bailed on us last minute and we need a place to stay for 3 nights. They are playing in Pitman, NJ one night, then in MD, then in Philly on Thurs night, and Philly is the central point so we were hoping to stay there for 3 days:( If anyone has a floor or couch or whatever, please send us an email! Chances are we will leave your place cleaner than when we got there, we have all our own food, etc.. And if not, check 'em out anyways on myspace.com/theloveitband.. LOVE IT!!! :)
This is my rant (Philadelphia)

Let me begin by saying I do not believe in internet anonymity. I am a songwriter, a singer, and a guitar player. I have been in several bands over the years with varying degrees of success. My name is Erik and my last band was called Midnight Bottle Club. After years of trying to make independent original music I have come to a conclusion: There is no prize at the end of this rope. I write and perform music because I love to do it. More specifically, I feel compelled to do it, and probably will continue to write and perform until I am no longer able. As time has passed and changes in the music business have come and gone, I have changed my goals. I used to have dreams of 'making it' or 'getting signed' and while living in California I very nearly did... twice. Later I realized that even attaining these goals would not necessarily be a good thing. My professional career has afforded me a modestly comfortable lifestyle that could never be equaled by a DIY tour or even the Holy Grail - a major label contract (not on the first album anyway). So instead my goal changed to 'write music I like and play it for as many people as often as I can'. This goal has served me well for a while but now even this is becoming more trouble than it is worth. The problems are in fact my own fault. To make an original music project successful you must promote. You could have a fantastic band with great players and killer songs and still be completely unknown with no one coming to see you perform. And how do you promote? Call all your friends endlessly begging them to come to performances. Spam your email contact lists. Send MySpace and Face book notices to all your friends. Maybe some people would disagree but I see posters and fliers as useless wastes of time and money. For a while I've started to think 'well, maybe no one likes this music'. This would be contradicted by those few people who would see me play and compliment - a lot - strangers, not friends. So I decided to see how 'successful' bands do with their shows. I went to many venues and saw many bands. Everyone, successful or not is doing the exact same thing. Their shows are a direct reflection of their personal social circles. I've been to crowded shows at good venues for local bands where their 'fans' aren't paying any attention what so ever to the show. It is a social event. So if your in school, a fraternity, are a or are close friends with a drug dealer, or just in general have a huge group of friends that have disposable income with no responsibilities, then your going to do great with whatever music you do. If not, you have an uphill battle to fight. All I wanted was to write and play. So if you see me around, because I'm not going to stop, take a moment and listen as a fan of music not a judge of my ability to draw.

PROFESSIONAL GUITAR INSTRUCTION Over 20 years teaching and performing experience.
Professional Guitarist offering private Guitar & Bass lessons.
Time slots at my private teaching/recording studio (Bucks County, PA) available.
All levels. Kids are welcome! Beginner-intermediate and ADVANCED.

When you first start playing any instrument do not waste valuable time and money.
Do not BARGIN shop for a guitar teacher. You GET what you pay for!
And your results or lack there of will show it!
Learning correctly from the start and building necessary foundation skills will save you from forming debilitating bad habits and techniques.
Bad Technique leads most to great frustration and giving up the instrument.
If your guitar playing and study is currently in a rut? Let me help you change that. All students have a personal, organized practice system to follow that works towards achieving their individual goals, exposing their weak points and making them strengths.
Are you leaving lessons more confused than when you came, due to disorganized, hap-hazard teaching methods?
In my studio you will Focus on:
- Technique Exercises,
- Music Theory,
- Scales,
- Arpeggios,
- Chords,
- Sight-reading,
- Ear training
+ and their applications to Improvisation and Composition. +
Learn to play ANYTHING! I teach most styles of music.
Lessons are individually tailored to meet each students specific needs.
Students are shown how to play the songs they wish to learn note for note exactly as the artist played them.
Of course, simplified versions are presented to beginners if the original music is too complex.
Special CD's of the material studied are created in my recording studio allowing the student to practice along with the music at different speeds while still maintaining the original pitch of the music.
Ear training exercises, modal, scale, arpeggio, improvising, and many other "extras" are also given to students on CD to study with.
This creates a working MUSICAL environment for the student where theoretical playing concepts can be put to immediate, practical use.

I come highly recommended by public/private schoolteachers, parents, and ex-students, for the simple reason that I get results. Many of my students start from scratch and become working professionals.
Former students have acquired college scholarships into prestigious colleges like BERKLEE school of music.
Let my decades of successfully training guitarists to play at their highest level work for you!

RE:Looking for bands to make a philadelphia compilation album

Anyone who falls for this is a smack ass.

Original post:
"Looking to put together an album of bands that play in the Philadelphia area.

Looking for around 15 unsigned rock/alternative bands to record original singles that will be featured on a compilation album to be released during the spring of next year.

Each band will pay $350. The bands will receive studio time in a professional recording studio after which they will receive one mastered recorded song and have their track added to the compilation album that will be released in the spring along with 40 copies of the album to sell or distribute as they please.

Looking for serious bands with polished material, please respond with any questions and a link or mp3 of an example of your original music."

So recap in other words.....fork out $350, wait for the other 14 bands to do the same and then do the recording, bust your balls selling your lousy 40 copies for $10 tops to make $50 (if you can hustle them all) and put a sample song of your music out. Now do the math.....15bands x 40 cd's each =600 cd's which cost at most $1200 to print. Now...$350 x 15= $5,250 - $1,200 = $4,050. This last number is the amount whoever is producing this cd will make and you get how much for doing all the work? Oh yeah, maybe $50. Fucking jerk offs. Save yourself the trouble and record a song yourself, print 40 copies on your computer and give them out. Easier, cheaper, faster.

Tritone Open Mic Tonight (Backline provided - all genres welcome)

Disclaimer...in light of all the recent open mic nonsense on here, let's get this stuff outta the way. We are the host band. We do not make any promises of you getting a gig at Tritone based on an open mic because we don't have that authority. Nor do we claim that this is an 'audition night' because it is not (though some acts will get booked if they just talk to the owner, bartender, etc and drop their info). If you want to be booked, go to www.tritonebar.com and contact them. As host band, we kick the night off and play a max of 2-3 songs just like everyone else. We only give 10 minute slots (2-3 songs) because it is a popular open mic and we get a lot of people wanting to sign up. We provide a list with specific time slots, meaning if you want to come in and sign up and then come back closer to your approximate time slot, feel free. We provide the backline so bands don't have to haul their stuff.....there, I think I got all of the stuff people tend to complain about out of the way)

Calling all bands, singer/songwriters, rappers, jazz musicians, dancers, poets, comedians, actors, etc....All genres/acts welcome!

The open mic at Tritone happens EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT and is open to all styles and genres. A stand out performer is selected each night and invited back to a 'standout performer night' with the opportunity to win recording time and an online radio interview courtesy of South Street Sounds and Volta Radio.

"Performers of all stripes are invited to strut their artistic stuff in front of a crowd that's as diverse as the acts. Everyone from comedians to heavy metal guitarists to rappers take their turn on stage, where The Absolute Zeros are on hand to provide a backline for anyone who wants it" Philadelphia City Search

Like it says above, all are welcome! Backline provided for bands (drummers, please bring cymbals, snare, hi hat clutch and any additional hardware you may require...we have a shell kit, hi hat stand, two boom stands, throne and snare stand). One guitar amp and one bass amp provided. If that weren't enough, we now have a facebook page and youtube page for the open mic. Come on out and maybe you'll get a photo or video of your performance added to the pages. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Philadelphia-PA/Tritone-Open-Mic/126815902858?ref=ts and www.youtube.com/tritonetuesopenmic
Sign up - 7:30 PM (performances begin around 8:30 PM) - Get there early. The list has been filling up quickly the last few weeks.
10 minutes/2 songs

Keyboardists are welcome to just plug into the PA system. A CD player will be available for artists that have pre-recorded beats. You can also bring your iPod. We have the cables to connect it to the PA.

Experienced pro-level drummer/percussionist looking to accompany original or cover band. My interests and playing styles range from accompanying acoustic singer/songwriters (in the veign of Elliott Smith, The Kin) to hard hitting alternative rock (in the veign of Queens of the Stone Age, Rage Against the Machine) and pretty much everything in between. I play what's appropriate for the music and know when to throw in some chops and when to not overplay. Can play full kit or djembe.
I'm not interested in any classic rock cover, prog rock or math rock bands. I've done all of the Stones, Dead, Rush, and Led Zep covers years ago and don't want to revisit them.
If I didn't fit the bill, the courtesy of a reply is all I would expect. These bands post over and over yet don't feel they have to live up to the responsibility of answering a reply. Now if your reply is from DONTE, the all in one musician , replying for the 10th time, I can understand ignoring the request. But if you are getting a first time reply will ALL the proof of talent and you blow them off, that's just wrong. It makes you look small. It's definitely a red flag for their lack of maturity and compassion, something that is a #1 tool in this business.
