Atlas LSAT believes that the number one factor affecting student performance is teacher quality, so we hire only the best teachers, train them intensely, and arm them with a superior curriculum. Teachers are hired to instruct full classes and to tutor students one-on-one or in small groups. We provide extensive training and all student and instructor materials, but encourage the development of unique teaching styles. Additionally, all teachers participate in developing new curriculum – the ones doing the teaching know what works and what doesn’t. We’re a company run by teachers – it’s at the heart of who we are. Each summer, Exploration offers more than 150 unique courses and more than 90 unique mini-courses in a wide array of academic disciplines. (See our website, www.explo.org, for a sample of the kinds of courses we offer.) These enrichment courses are hands-on, not-for-credit, and ungraded. They are taught by summer instructors who are passionate about the fields in which they are teaching, but who are primarily undergraduate and graduate students with little or no teaching experience. The primary responsibility of the PCA is to mentor these young teachers in the development of student-centered, activity-based curriculum that will encourage our summer students to challenge themselves, discover the world of people and ideas, and experience the joy of learning.

A brief online training for new PCAs takes place in December. Curriculum advising takes place between January and June. Most PCAs advise between one and six courses. Exploration coordinates an advising schedule with PCAs, such that the advising process for a single course or mini-course/workshop is completed in approximately three weeks (of your choosing). A full course usually takes between 15 hours to advise; a mini-course/workshop usually takes 7 hours to advise.

PCAs may elect to receive either monetary compensation or graduate credit (or a mixture of the two) for their work as PCAs. PCAs are compensated $200 per full-course and $100 per mini-course. PCAs that advise 3 full-courses (or the equivalent thereof), may elect instead to receive 4 graduate credits transferable to the graduate program of their choosing. Exploration is a Professional Development Provider and, as such, can award recertification points for this work.

Candidates for the position should have at least two years of experience as an educator (public or private). A degree in education is not required, but is certainly a plus.

Interested applicants can apply at our hiring website: http://hiring.explo.org/pca.html

Additional questions can be directed to Barb Trainor, Director of Curriculum and Instruction at btrainor@explo.org, or by calling (781)762-7400.

NOTE: Please do not send resumes, as we will only view applications that are submitted through our hiring website.

Transition to teaching math or science (Philadelphia)

The Philadelphia Teacher Residency (PTR) program is a teacher preparation program to prepare science, technology, engineering and math [STEM] recent graduates and professionals to teach math and science in Philadelphia schools. For a full school year, program participants (Residents) will learn in a teaching internship at the elbow of veteran teachers in high school classrooms. At the same time, they will take coursework at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education to earn both a Master's Degree as well as Pennsylvania teacher certification. Residents receive tuition supplement and a living stipend to support their full-time training.

After the year-long internship, Residents teach in the School District of Philadelphia (SDP) for at least three years after the residency training year and obtain a hiring commitment from the SDP to do so. For the graduated Resident's first three years as a full-time teacher of record, PTR provides ongoing professional development activities.

PTR is singularly focused on the thorough preparation of math and science teachers for Philadelphia's high-need public schools. The first year of solo teaching can be intimidating for any teacher. But by the time Residents begin a school year in their own classroom, they already have a year of experience, a thorough understanding of the challenges that lie ahead, and an ongoing support network.

Eligible candidates must have:
•	Keen interest in teaching in Philadelphia public schools for at least three years
•	A bachelor's degree in mathematics, engineering or science
•	A cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 from an accredited college or university
•	U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status
•	Passing scores on the required Praxis Exams
(Interested candidates are encouraged to apply even if they have not yet taken these exams. However, candidates must pass the exams before in order to complete the Residency program, obtain Instructional I certification or obtain a hiring commitment from the School District of Philadelphia.)

The NYC Teaching Fellows program is recruiting talented, dedicated individuals to become teachers who raise student achievement in the New York City classrooms that need them most. A good teacher can mean the difference between a student graduating from high school or not, between a student reaching for college or not. Yet, too often, our highest need students are the ones who do not have enough good teachers. Become a NYC Teaching Fellow and help to change this reality.

Through this program, a Fellow can become a full-time teacher in a New York City public school within a few months of enrolling in the Fellowship. By teaching in schools and subject areas that are traditionally hard to staff, NYC Teaching Fellows concentrate their talents in the areas where they can have the most impact.

Rather than completing a traditional teacher education program prior to entering the classroom, Fellows engage in an intensive pre-service training program and then continue their education through a subsidized Master's degree program while teaching at a New York City public school. No previous teaching experience or education coursework is necessary.

NYC Teaching Fellows come from a wide range of backgrounds and careers including finance, advertising, non-profit, healthcare, law, and academia. You could be a recent college graduate or have worked in an industry for many years. Through the Fellows program, you can use your experience, knowledge, and achievements to positively affect the lives of students. Fellows teach a variety of subject areas based on their qualifications.

Today, more than one in ten current teachers came through the Teaching Fellows program. This is your opportunity to join a growing group of motivated and energetic professionals who are answering the call to teach in traditionally underserved communities.

The Fellowship is now accepting applications for the June 2010 program. The Fellowship is competitive and interview spots are limited, so we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible. While the size and subject composition of the June 2010 program are still to be determined, applications are reviewed and interviews are granted on a rolling basis. The Fellowship is now accepting applications for the June 2010 program.

Apply today at www.nycteachingfellows.org

The Fellowship includes:

Intensive pre-service training with a non-taxable stipend to help offset living costs
