Are you looking for a mellow daytime activity with other people, and a way to explore your city?
The Philadelphia Hiking Meetup Group schedules events nearly every weekend. Most of our events are 2-3 hours in duration; some are longer; some are shorter.
The Fairmount Park system (the largest inner-city park in the world: bigger than New York's Central Park) offers many opportunities for exploring nature without ever leaving the city itself.
There are also many urban oases, highlighting the history of our region, beautiful public sculptures and murals, as well as recreational paths and other facilities. Within the reach of our public transit system (Regional Rail, etc), there are several public parks offering miles of hiking trails (Ridley Creek, Valley Forge, etc.), so you don't even need to own a car to join us on our hikes (although we do arrange carpooling on occasion for more distant events). Where convenient, we get together for food and drinks after our events, too, and get to know each other a little better.
